Sydney 2014 | Day 5 - Jenolan Caves

Today was definitely the busiest and most stressful day of our holiday. We decided it might be cool to go out to the Blue Mountains and go adventure caving in the Jenolan Caves. The only problem with this is that there is no public transport to the caves. Which meant we needed to hire a car.

We caught a train to Leura, which was where the closest hire car place to the caves was. The train trip was about two hours, which I absolutely hated, because I don’t like sitting in the same place for long amounts of time. When we got to Leura, we walked to the car hire and got our car.

We set off, following the directions of the map on my iPhone. It turned out that this was the wrong direction, which we had been driving in for half an hour. We turned around, and began driving on the incredibly long 2-hour journey to the caves.

When we got there, we went on the Temple of Baal cave tour, which was really good.

Next we went on the Plughole Adventure Cave tour. This was absolutely terrifying. We had to get into the cave by abseiling in. I was freaking out about this, but luckily everything was okay. It was really satisfying once I was at the bottom of the cliff. The rest of the adventure caving was really fun. It was really fun crawling and squeezing through the gaps in the rock. Of course, I was the person in the group to get stuck in a hole!

We drove back and returned out hire car, but unfortunately we missed the train back and we had to wait for an hour, so we went to a nearby Woolworths and bought a massive tub of chocolate and cherry ice cream, which we ate at the train station.

When we returned to Wynyard, we popped back into our hotel to get changed, and we went back out to Jamie Oliver’s Italian for dinner. Once again, service and food was excellent.
